This innovative devised performance work is a circus-inspired grab bag of classic Southern trickster characters (think Brer’ Rabbit, Brer’ Fox, Brer’ Possum . . .) adapted for the 21st century. Using contemporary circus techniques, live music, vivid costumes, and delightfully over-sized props, Assistant Professor Carlos Cruz and his students examine, re-imagine, and welcome back to our community characters long present in the histories and iconography of African American, Latino, and Native American cultures in the southeastern and southwestern United States.
April 20-25 performances will take place outdoors on the Mobile Arts & Community Experience (MAX) in the CHHS Quad. No ticket is necessary. Trikster will also be performed on MAX at Aldersgate on April 29 as part of the International Sandwich Festival.
