Film Screening and Discussion: Planet of the Apes

April 29, 2017 - 2:00 PM
UNC Charlotte Center City

The College of Arts & Architecture partners with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library to present the first in a series of film screenings inspired by a recent book by Professor of Theatre Mark Pizzato. Pizzato's Beast-People Onscreen and in Your Brain: The Evolution of Animal-Humans from Prehistoric Cave Art to Modern Movies, published in 2016, draws together the diverse disciplines of anthropology, neuroscience, psychology, aesthetics, and performance studies to examine the question, “How is our abiding interest in beast-people films like Twilight and Dracula rooted in mankind's animal ancestry?”

The screening of the 1968 film Planet of the Apes will be followed by a discussion with Dr. Pizzato, Sam Shapiro of  Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, and Tim Parati, who will bring some of his a large collection of "Planet" paraphernelia. This event is free and open to the public.
